International Reading Association Conference 2013

The International Reading Association Conference is coming to San Antonio April 19-22 and I get to attend!  Every year, I get the pamphlets and e-mails about it being in some city far away and I always wish I could go.  This year, I am just a couple hours away!  I hate missing school, even for professional development, but this is an opportunity I cannot pass up.

Just some of the people scheduled to speak:

And so many more!  I've only just begun browsing.  The best news is that I get to attend at a significantly lower rate because I am an IRA student member (since I'm still taking grad classes).

But, as I began looking through all of the sessions, I see so many about the Common Core.  Does anyone else in Texas feel completely left out of the loop with this state not adopted them?  I feel like I will be at a disadvantage if I ever need to look for a teaching job in another state!

    I want to hit the exhibits (cause I'm local) but don't get to go to the actual conference. Presenting at TCEA so I can't do both. :/

    Yes, in TX I feel like we do miss out on a lot. But, I have a feeling that we aren't leaving those TEKS anytime soon (EVER).
