International Reading Association Conference 2013

The International Reading Association Conference is coming to San Antonio April 19-22 and I get to attend!  Every year, I get the pamphlets and e-mails about it being in some city far away and I always wish I could go.  This year, I am just a couple hours away!  I hate missing school, even for professional development, but this is an opportunity I cannot pass up.

Just some of the people scheduled to speak:

Mo Willems author of...Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! (Big Book Edition) (Pigeon Series)

Stephanie Harvey...Regie Routman...Ruth Culham
Strategies That Work: Teaching Comprehension for Understanding and EngagementReading Essentials: The Specifics You Need to Teach Reading Well6+1 Traits of Writing: The Complete Guide for the Primary Grades

Debbie Diller..Fountas and Pinnell

Literacy Work Stations: Making Centers WorkGuided Reading: Good First Teaching for All Children

And so many more!  I've only just begun browsing.  The best news is that I get to attend at a significantly lower rate because I am an IRA student member (since I'm still taking grad classes).

But, as I began looking through all of the sessions, I see so many about the Common Core.  Does anyone else in Texas feel completely left out of the loop with this state not adopted them?  I feel like I will be at a disadvantage if I ever need to look for a teaching job in another state!
Does anyone else get to attend the IRA conference this spring?  You can find more information here:  IRA 2013 Convention

  2. I want to hit the exhibits (cause I'm local) but don't get to go to the actual conference. Presenting at TCEA so I can't do both. :/

  3. Oooh, I want to go to that or the TCEA. In my dreams.

Yes, in TX I feel like we do miss out on a lot. But, I have a feeling that we aren't leaving those TEKS anytime soon (EVER).

Hey Jessica, I want to make a cootie catcher for vocab...did you use a template? Did you buy it? Please let me know.

  4. Hi Jessica,
Lucky you! I've always wanted to attend the IRAC...maybe one day it will come to a city near me. I'm proud to be your newest follower. I'll be stopping back to read all about your adventures at the conference.

    Take care,
